Filiberto Montesinos Castañon was born in 1972 in Tuxtla Gutiérrez, in the Mexican state of Chiapas. He began studying painting techniques at the age of 10 at the cultural centre of the city of Cintalapa in Chiapas. Filiberto detains a master degree in business administration from the Centre of Professional Studies of Chiapas “Fray Bartolomé de las Casas”. He studied art at the Chiapas State university of Sciences and Art and took courses in creativity at the Free State University of Puebla – Mexico, where his first individual exhibition took place in 1993, after which he further showed his paintings during private events.

  •  In 1998 his work was exhibited during the 27th “Anniversary Ball Auction” in Los Angeles - California.

  • In 1999 he participated to the “Viva” project with an exhibition at the Village at Ed Gould Plaza, Los Angeles - California. He also organized an exhibition called “Night of Hope” in the “House of Blues”, Los Angeles - California.

  • In 2001 his work was the hit of “Latin Style,” the welcome party for the 1st Annual Latin Grammy’s.

  • In 2002 he received rave reviews for his one-man art shows at the Dragon Gallery in Nyack, New York and in Amagansett in the Hamptons, New York.

  • In 2003, Filiberto was honoured as “Best New Artist of the Year” by “Padres Contra el Cancer” during “El Sueño de Esperanza” with commendations from US Vice President Dick Cheney and other notables. As a member of the Society of Artist Painters his work could also be seen during two years at the Desert Art Centre de Palm Springs.

  • In May 2005, his solo exhibition “Susurro Edenico“ took place at the fashion and art space “L-7 Set“ in Madrid – Spain, at the occasion of which Filiberto conceded an interview to the “Radio Nacional Exterior de España“ in the house of America in Madrid.

  • In July 2005, he designed the set for a new production of the opera "La Bohème", under the patronage of the Jovellanos theatre of Gijón. Several of his paintings were also displayed at the Tioda art gallery of Gijón. In September of this same year he participated to the 6th edition of the "Independent Art Fair” of Madrid (FAIM).

  • In February 2006 his art could be seen for the first time in Belgium during a solo exhibition at the Espac’ Art gallery of Mons, for which he received rave reviews from the local press. Another solo exhibition was inaugurated in June at the Mexican Embassy to Belgium, Luxembourg and the European Union, in the European capital Brussels. In July, he participated to the design of another opera set, La Traviata, which was at that time programmed by the same aforementioned Asturian theatre Jovellanos, and, due to its tremendous success, later repeated at the Opera house of Vigo, Galicia – Spain, in March 2007.
  • From December 2006 till February 2007, several of his paintings were on display at the K-Galerie of the Bavarian capital, Munich, Germany.

  • In January 2007, he participated to “Station Antwerp”, a fascinating exhibition combining trend-setting fashion brands and art in the shunting station of Antwerp, Belgium, and fitting within the first edition of the Benelux fashion week.

  • In May 2007 his work was displayed during a solo exhibition at the Artipasta gallery of downtown Brussels.  

  • In July 2007, he contributed to the set design of the opera Rigoletto, for the Jovellanos theatre of Gijón, Spain.   

  • From November 2007 till March 2008, part of his “Black and White” collection was exposed for the very first time in Europe,  with some of his most breathtaking flowers, during a collective exhibition at “Annother Art Gallery” in Aartselaar close to Antwerp, Belgium.  

  • In June 2008, important parts of his collections were simultaneously on display at the Corinna Steiner Gallery of Vienna, Austria and the Star Gallery of Böblingen near Stuttgart, Germany.

  • From January till February 2009, a solo exhibition took place in the Gallery “El Pacifico” of Stuttgart, Germany

  • In March 2009, His Excellence Mr. Alejandro Díaz, Ambassador of the United States of Mexico in Vienna, opened Filiberto's new exhibition at the Gallery Steiner – Art & Wine of downtown Vienna, Austria.

  • Since August 2009, Filiberto also works in cooperation with the Gallery Angerer of Vomperbach near Schwaz in Tirol, Austria.
  • From October to December 2009, the Mexican Cultutal Centre of the Mexican Embassy in Vienna, Austria, was entirely dedicated to his most recent work
  • In May 2010, he participated to a group exhibition in the Gallery "Art Présent" in downtown Paris, France
  • From May to July 2010, paintings of his 3 main collections are on display during a solo exhibition at the gallery "Art Café 26" of Williamsburg, VA , USA.
